Dr. Mark Groskin grew up in his place of birth — Syracuse, New York.

As a young man he found himself getting involved in running as a sport, an interest that led him to running his first full marathon at age sixteen.

Soon after he attended Yeshiva University in New York City as an undergraduate, where he decided on dentistry as his chosen profession. He went on to study the subject and eventually received his degree at the Howard University College of Dentistry.

It was at Yeshiva University that another of Mark’s lifelong passions soon developed.

Fascinated by the role of concentration in marathon running and sports performance, he found himself looking with increasing interest at Asian martial arts and their techniques for improving the body and mind.

At the time Yeshiva University was fortunate to have as a teacher one of the legendary figures in American martial arts – Master Harvey Sober. Attending Sober’s classes led the young Mark Groskin to make martial arts mastery one of his major life goals.

While attending dental school, Mark also met and studied under another martial arts legend – Robert W. Smith, in his Bethesda, Maryland studio.

Mark himself rapidly became a black belt in Tai Kwan Do, studying and practicing in a club run by two of his dental school classmates.

Martial arts training taught Mark the benefits of pure physical body training, and set him on the course that eventually led to his becoming an award-winning power lifter.

After Yeshiva, Mark began formally practicing dentistry and in time began his own dental practice, which soon experienced dramatic growth. But Mark’s interest in health, fitness, and the martial arts remained strong as ever.

His studies of various martial arts approaches led him to develop and systematize his own unique approach, which he came to dub “Tai-G.”

As a method suited for reducing physical and mental stress, he eventually made and marketed a video on the subject and is contemplating producing a book on the subject as well.

Dr. G's practice may revolve around the professional care of teeth. But to Mark, smiles are just as important. One of the hallmarks of his practice is the care and attention he and the staff give to making sure that visiting is as much fun as possible.

But Dr. G has a serious side as well. One month after 9/11, Mark gave dental exams free of charge to American soldiers about to go overseas, as his own personal contribution to help American troops and our government in time of conflict.

Mark's also currently hard at work raising funds for Ora Academy, the only high school in Upstate New York for young Jewish Orthodox women.

Social and charitable activities are a part of Mark's life that finds their roots in his deep, disciplined, life-long commitment to religious observance and service.

From owner of multiple businesses to “The Three Stooges’ greatest fan,” from serious martial arts student to educational fund-raiser, from award-winning power-lifter to observant student of the Scriptures, Mark combines several exceptional facets in one personality.

But all of them are marked with good will and decency and humanity. And all of them shine.
